EL CURSO ALPHA EN ESPAÑOL
Information in English below.

SPEAKER: NICKY GUMBEL
Main Speaker
Nicholas Glyn Paul "Nicky" Gumbel (born 28 April 1955) is an ordained Anglican priest, vicar and author. He is known as the developer of the Alpha. He is the main speaker in our course.
Gumbel is the son of Walter Gumbel, a German Jew from Stuttgart whose licence to practise law in that city was withdrawn in one of the early Nazi purges. Walter Gumbel emigrated to Britain and became a successful barrister. Gumbel's mother, Muriel, served on the Greater London Council for many years between 1967 and 1986 and was Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Initially an avowed atheist,[1] Gumbel was converted to Christianity in his first year at Trinity College, Cambridge through reading the New Testament. He said, "I was enthralled. It was as if I had found what I had been looking for all my life
Education
Gumbel was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge.
After graduating in law in 1976, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a practising barrister based at 3 Hare Court, Temple. Meanwhile, he became a regular worshipper at Holy Trinity Brompton Church, Knightsbridge. Then in 1982 he announced his decision to leave the bar to train for ordination in the Church of England. In 1983 he began theological studies atWycliffe Hall, Oxford from where he graduated with an honours degree in theology. After some difficulty in finding a curacy, he joined the staff of his "home" church of Holy Trinity Brompton in London as a curate in 1986. He was ordainedpriest in 1987.
Gumbel was officially installed as vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton Church in September 2005 after the Reverend Prebendary Sandy Millar retired from stipendiary ministry and moved on to be an assistant bishop in the Diocese of London based at St Mark's Tollington Park in North London.
In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Gloucestershire (whose Chancellor is a former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey) as recognition of his broad contribution to the wider church via Alpha.
Alpha Course
In 1990 Gumbel took over the running of the Alpha Course that had been running there since 1973. The course was transformed under his leadership from being one designed for new Christians to one primarily for those outside the church who would not consider themselves as Christians.
He is the author of a number of books related to the Alpha course, including Questions of Life, which has sold over 1,000,000 copies. Voted "Christian Book of the Year" in 1994, it has been published in 48 languages. Other related books include Why Jesus, Searching Issues, Telling Others, A Life Worth Living, Challenging Lifestyle, Heart of Revival and 30 Days

HOW IS AN EVENING IN ALPHA?
A Typical evening on Alpha!
Each session
begins with a spectacular free meal, providing an opportunity to get
to know others in a casual setting. This is followed by a short talk
from a recognized speaker, which examines a different aspect of the
Christian faith, then open discussion in English or Spanish.
6:30 PM
Dinner Reception. Guests usually eat with other members of their own ‘group’ of around 10 people.
Dinner Reception. Guests usually eat with other members of their own ‘group’ of around 10 people.
7:30 PM
Talk. The main talk of the evening addresses a key issue relating to the Christian faith. Our course will use a Nicky Gumbel's video as speaker. The course is supported by all the main Christian denominations. For example, the Alpha course has been run by thousands of Catholic churches in more than 65 countries around the world.
8:15 PM
Small Groups. All guests will share their personal conclusion and ideas about the video in small group sessions, which are the most valuable and rewarding times of the whole Alpha course. The sessions are an opportunity to ask questions, express opinions and to discuss the topic of the evening. They also provide an opportunity to make friends and to bounce ideas around in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.
Alpha is a place where no
question is too simple or too much. Every question is welcome and we
don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity
8:45 PM
Each session ends with a moment of reflection, and guests are free to stay and chat if they would like.
WHO IS IT FOR? SCHEDULE & CHARGE
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for anyone … everyone is welcome on an Alpha course and people attend for a wide variety of reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life; others are concerned about what happens after death. Still other may have attended church on and off all their lives but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. People come from many different backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints – but all come with the same objective: to establish whether Jesus Christ has any real relevance for their lives.
Maybe you grew up as
Christian/Catholic or not, maybe you know the basics or not. Perhaps
it’s been awhile, maybe a long while, since you’ve connected to
God or any church. Enter: Alpha. It’s for everyone. Especially
those who are feeling the need to explore more Christianity or even
consider it for the first time. Welcome!
